WHY THIS FUND?

This Fund is a National, Defined Contribution Fund which is administrated by Retirement Fund Solutions (Pty)Ltd.

The Fund was established after negotiation at Bargaining Council level between the employer organisation and trade unions.

The Fund originated as a result of various enquiries from members who preferred a Retirement Fund to a Pension Fund

The Fund is registered in terms of the Pension Funds Act 24 of 1956.

Inception of The National Fund for Municipal Workers was on 1 June 1997, and during a window period employees had the option to become members of this Fund.

This is a fund established for all employees of Local Authorities and it offers the following benefits:

Uniformity within Local Government, Provinces and Bargaining Councils.

As a member you will always know exactly what your benefits are, even when you are transferred from one Local Authority to another.

Economy of scale - the more members in the fund, the wider the spread of risk and subsequent savings in costs. This will result in greater benefits for you as member.

Members can exercise individual risk cover choices, underwritten by Sanlam.

Members can also exercise individual investment choices.

With more than 80% of member elected trustees, there is a greater transparency and participation by members in the management of the Fund.

You are assured of this Fund's excellent service and low administration costs.

As a result of the lower cost structure of the Fund, more money is channelled to your retirement benefit which results in a greater benefit at retirement. Therefore, by joining this Fund, you will be saving on administration and risk cover costs.
